Yes, this is the long awaited accessories post. 🙂 I’m going to be talking about a few different accessories which play a very important part in the completion of each of my outfits – namely, scarves, shoes, and jewellery.
Scarves: Yes, so now you know…. how gigantically HUGE our scarf collection is! Ha, that isn’t even the whole lot! Lace scarves, animal print scarves, warm scarves, silk scarves, printed scarves, chiffon scarves… gosh, the list goes on! (Too many exclamation marks…) They are worn for many different occasions. Scarves can be worn in all seasons because there is such a great variety. Wool scarves are awesome for winter, but when wearing a lace or light chiffon scarf, you’ll barely be adding any warmth to your outfit – perfect for summer or early autumn. In my opinion, scarves add an extra dimension to your outfit. It’s all about the layers, and scarves certainly add one. By the addition of just one colourful scarf, a previously dull outfit will come alive. Plus, that pop of colour by your face can lift the look. They add new texture, colour and variety and I definitely reccomend collecting a few to add to your wardrobe if you haven’t already. As you can see… we may just have a few too many in ours…
Shoes: Some people have a small obsession for collecting these rather addicting accessories. Ahem… Lydia… Proven by the fact that I only own three pairs out of this lovely collection of heels, flats and wedges. But I borrow them from time to time. 😉 Alrighty, before we move on with the topic of shoes, I have a teeny tiny confession to make… or a memory is perhaps a better way to put it. Here goes:
When I was young, I used to watch the ever evolving fashion trends. I watched as skinny jeans came into fashion and I must say I looked on with horror as my sister, my sister, bought a pair. How could she??? Well, my taste has since changed, and I now wear and love my own skinny jeans, which incidentally aren’t that tight on my already skinny binny legs. But back to shoes. I also watched as first one of my sister’s friends and then another started to wear heels. For some reason, I believed at that young age, that heels were evil! They indicated a change in modesty standards towards the dark side. However, again, since then, I have now come to love the addition of heels to any outfit. With jeans, with skirts, gosh, who couldn’t love them?! Practicality does take over in some instances, but my point is that… well, I don’t really have a point, I just thought you might be amused by that little story. Actually, not surpisingly, my fashion sense as a youngster wasn’t the most trendy. But hey, if my taste has changed that dramatically over the years who knows what I’ll be wearing next… turbans?! Hey wait, haven’t I already done that?… here.
Shoes add a bit of character to any outfit. Find a type that you like, it’s the next step in developing your very own, unique style.
Jewellery: Where would we be without jewellery? It just adds a little something to every outfit, and while you don’t need to wear a bracelet, necklace, earrings, and severals rings at once, they are all useful and suited to different types of outfits. My favourite jewellery accessory are necklaces. From statement pieces to dainty silver and even long casual necklaces. I always like to wear a pair of earrings with any outfit too. I mostly have my hair down, so they might not even be seen, but it makes me feel just a tad more classy. Studs or small silver or pearl earrings are what I wear most, however I have seen dangly earrings worn very well too.
I recently discovered the trend of wearing many bracelets on one arm. It’s called arm candy. For me, I belive it adds a bit more interest to a possibly plain summer outfit. I only wear silver, however different colours can be worn and will again spice up any outfit. I keep my jewellery on a stand for easy access. That picture was taken a while ago, so, a few more earrings have been added and a couple of necklaces too. From David Tasker Designer Jewellery of course. Yes, I do believe that shop will be included in my favourit shops to shop post. Last but certainly not least – the topic of vintage jewellery. Although we live in a new age with bright colours and trendy wear, I still do believe that there is a place for a bit of vintage in there. This is possibly due to my love of everything vintage, but you decide for yourself. Below is a picture of my Mum’s collection of jewellery that she used to wear many moons ago. I have permanently borrowed a few pieces, some of which you have seen on this blog before. So, in conclusion, owning a variety of jewellery pieces will be truly beneficial as different occaisons will call for different accessories. Don’t over do it, but tastefully add some bling to each of your outfits.
I hope that you enjoyed this accessories post and gleaned some useful tips and ideas from this it. I really enjoying writing obout the accessories that I own, and would really appreciate any other ideas for posts that you would like to see. Another hair tutorial anyone?
Oh yes, and the singing competition. We didn’t get a placing unfortunately, as there was some rather high competition, but we were very honoured to even get into the finals, because the judge that we were talking to said that there were about 100 song entries. Considering that it was the very first song we have ever written, I think we did quite well 🙂
Guess what?! I went to see the Hobbit last night! SO cool! Great cinematography, and if you go and see it, it has to be in 3D. 🙂
On that note, I shall leave you. Have a lovely week my readers!
P.S. Just another pic of our gigantic scarf collection 😉
